Everything is.. very dark.

Unread postby Elukka » Sun, 26th Oct 2008 13:38

Why is this? All the terrain and foliage is extremely dark and there's little colour. This isn't a rainforest, it's zombieland.

This is a rainforest. As you can see, it's very not dark. I like realism and real is generally not dark.

I love the mod otherwise, but this really bugs me.

Try altering your brightness settings, to make it brighter

Hm, i did write that in the first post originally, but the forum lost it and i forgot to include it again.

Anyway, that doesn't really help. The problem is with the textures themselves. Brightness, contrast and gamma settings only do so much. It still looks like zombieland, except with more light. But still nothing like real life.

Try it on different settings
On medium setting there is a lighter texture

That also removes a lot of good effects. Corpses rotting, a lot of weather effects, the water reflections, the detailed sky... I'd really rather not sacrifice all that.

Does your game look like the screenshots displayed in this topic?

viewtopic.php?f=24&t=2288&start=0

If it does, then i don't see what you're complaining about, as that's how i view the game, and i don't see any problem with it.

If it's darker than those screenshots, then you've got your brightness/contrast/gamma values all wrong. Just increasing the brightness won't help. You need to mess with all the values until it looks okay to you.

ERC is right... the slightly dark atmosphere that the mod made gives the feeling of a dense forest in a slightly cold or humid morning... much of what a tropical rainforest is supposed to be...

I'm considering on including my own options.ini file with the bugfix. To make sure everyone has okay settings. But then again, people will have different monitor settings, so it's not something i can gauge easily.

Meh, I just play it windowed, the game adopts the screen's colour depth and lighting while retaining the nice shadows provided by the modified lighting file :P

I like to play most games windowed so I can keep an eye on other things whilst I'm doing it.

I haven't tried playing it windowed yet. My comp would probably choke though.

having JPOG windowed is very helpful in case you're keeping your eye on the time and it really helps me when I'm skinning... I no longer need to take pictures with fraps, and I can readily edit my skin with adobe photoshop running at the same time then putting them in-game without the need to re-run my game... I just have to load a saved game... it really helps a lot... ^_^
