Yup, looks close enough to these screenshots alright, but a tropical rainforest is not that dark on a sunny day. That's darker than a rainy, cloudy, grey autumn afternoon here in Finland. Also, the atmospheric mist removes more colour from it when viewed from afar. It's almost grey. It does look somewhat better close-up, but i'm not always looking at the game from close-up.

My monitor isn't set on a dark brightness setting, either. If anything, it might be a little brighter than average.

With talls trees, a lot of the light is actually blocked out in a tropical rainforest....that's why you don't see low-lying plants on the ground in rainforests...it's too dark to sustain life.

How is that unrealistic?

It's also just as dark when you look from above the canopy, which ought to be rather bright. That's why i said it looks somewhat better close-up.

If you replace the weather.ini with the original, it'll get lighter, but you'll lose all the cool effects.

You see, for those cool effects to work, it makes everything darker. So, it's either the cool mist/shading effects, or nothing at all.

Hence why i picked the cool effects :zaru:

Is it not possible to make the textures lighter?

You mean the terrain textures? Yeah, sure. I thought you meant the lighting was so dark.

Well, the terrain and all the foliage. I'd imagine they could be lightened up with some texture tweaking. Hmm, i could do it myself. Are the textures in some special format, or can i just phtooshop away?

The foliage textures are in TML files. If you know how to edit TML files, than you can edit them yourself.

Unfortunantly, this is something you are going to have to do yourself, as i will not lighten them for the GEP. I darkened them in the first place, as i thought that the orignal colour looked far too cartoony.

What about the ground? Is that also TML?
And the plants, do you just convertCCT them and then put them back in?

The ground is awkward. It's in the terrain folder. All the gbase.tga files.

Yeah, you can just use the convertCCT on the GEP flora tmls. Apart from the low one. I haven't re-wrote that one.

Bright is cartoony? Really, the real world isn't dark. If you want realism, you want realistic colour and lighting, not simply dark.
But i'll go play around.

JPOG looks quite cartoony without the GEP modifications...I don't know how the tiny bit of blood and gore in the game merited a "T" rating...

I don't think it's really cartoony, but if it is, it's not because of the brightness.
