More Accurate Speeds

Unread postby Melea Lord » Wed, 19th Mar 2008 16:02

Description
This changes speeds to be deemed more accurate. It is quite obvious that a Gali could quite easily outrun a rex, as well as a raptor. This fixes things like that. The speeds are based on the food cycles of today. Raptors are similar to cheetahs, while galis are like ostriches. Tricera is similar to a rhino and the stego and kentro are similar to a slow hippo (on land, these beasts can run incredibly fast). The animations for running have also been taken into account. My first speed of camara was based on an elephant (which can also run fast, 25m/h) and the running animation looked terrible, so the speed had to be taken down.

Installation
Download the following archive, open it and place the "units" folder inside your JPOG/Data folder.
Speed Mod.rar

It includes a readme and a notepad file giving the actual speed in km/h and the units the game accepts. This was found by choosing one dinosaur (I chose Rex). It has a speed of 9.5 and because the best estimation is 50km/h, I made the ratio 9.5:50. I worked out it is 0.19:1. So all I did next to find each dino was to multiply 0.19 by the estimated speed in km/h.

Compatibility
It is compatible with the GEP, unless you want the GEP speeds. Obviousley any MOD that involves the use of any dinosaur .INI file will be overwritten. However you can always edit the speed line in the .INI to be the same as this.

Notes
With thanks to whomever contributed to my old topic requesting speeds from people. I believe it was Dark Lord who gave me the idea of looking into modern day animals.
If you do not like some speeds, change them as you wish.

I Hope That Is All
Enjoy!

Is the estimated speed for Camarasaurus 35 kilometers per hour?

How can an animal like that be that fast? I expected something more like 15, 20 km/h.
Alas, ladies and gentleman, this day shall always be remembered as the day you almost caught Captain Dilophosaurus Rex!!!

Savvy?

I can't remember what present day animal I related it to...

Oh yes... an elephant runs at a max of 25 mph. When changed to kph... it ran a ridiculous speed, looked really strange so I dumned it down to 35 kph.

If the raptors represent cheetahs, shouldnt their energy levels be changed with respect to their new speeds? (Speed up, energy down)
