Adding Digsites

Unread postby Legion » Sun, 7th Jan 2007 21:08

Description
With this mod, users will be able to add digsites to their game.

Known Issues
No mixed dinosaurs. Users have to choose from an already existing tml's.

Tutorial
Files changed:
fslhunt.ini,
eng.txt;

Adding a Digsite
1. Open fslhunt.ini
2. Each digsite is a "block". A block loos like this:
Code: Select all
// <DIGSITE FULL NAME> ---------------------------------------------------------------

HuntingGround[<digsite short name>]
{
   title      = $FossilHunt_MorrisonA_Title; //used for eng.txt transition
   period      = Jurassic;
   location   = NorthAmerica;
   matlib      = "dinos_morrison_a"; //tml file you're using

   reqdinos   = { steg, cerato, dryo }; //dinos in the tml
   linkedtoset = 1;

   cost      = 0;   // This site is free!
   gold      = 12;

   position   = {100, 120}; //map location
   texture      = "FslHunt_fossil6";

   DigSite[river1]
   {
      type         = plains;
      texture         = "FslHunt_DigSite_1";
      position      = {58, 44};
      teams         = 2;
      digtime         = 1.0;
   }
   DigSite[river2]
   {
      type         = plains;
      texture         = "FslHunt_DigSite_2";
      position      = {46, 114};
      teams         = 3;
      digtime         = 1.0;
   }
   DigSite[plains]
   {
      type         = mountain;
      texture         = "FslHunt_DigSite_3";
      position      = {82, 212};
      teams         = 4;
      digtime         = 1.0;
   }
}

3. Now that you know how a disite block is composed (if you have doubts, just look at your fslhunt.ini file and extrapolate from any of those), we'll be actually adding a new digsite. We'll call it "InGen Facility", so here's what we do (as our objective is to add a digsite, we'll just rename Morrison A) we take a digsite block, copy it and paste it after the Flamming Cliffs Formation block, and edit it to our tastes:
Code: Select all
// INGEN FACILITY ---------------------------------------------------------------

HuntingGround[ingen]
{
   title      = $FossilHunt_ingen_Title;
   period      = Cretaceous;
   location   = NorthAmerica;
   matlib      = "dinos_morrison_a";

   reqdinos   = { steg, cerato, dryo };
   linkedtoset = 1;

   cost      = 0;   // This site is free!
   gold      = 12;

   position   = {110, 150};
   texture      = "FslHunt_fossil6";

   DigSite[river1]
   {
      type         = plains;
      texture         = "FslHunt_DigSite_1";
      position      = {58, 44};
      teams         = 2;
      digtime         = 1.0;
   }
   DigSite[river2]
   {
      type         = plains;
      texture         = "FslHunt_DigSite_2";
      position      = {46, 114};
      teams         = 3;
      digtime         = 1.0;
   }
   DigSite[plains]
   {
      type         = mountain;
      texture         = "FslHunt_DigSite_3";
      position      = {82, 212};
      teams         = 4;
      digtime         = 1.0;
   }
}

4. Find the line
Code: Select all
   grounds = { MorrisonA, HellCreekA , JudithRiverA, MorrisonB, HellCreekB, JudithRiverB, HellCreekB, TendaguruBeds, Chenini, FlamingCliffs };

Then, add your digsite:
Code: Select all
    grounds = { MorrisonA, HellCreekA , JudithRiverA, MorrisonB, HellCreekB, JudithRiverB, HellCreekB, TendaguruBeds, Chenini, FlamingCliffs, ingen };

Always remember, respect the original coding, double check everything to see if it follows the scheme!

5. open eng.txt and find:
Code: Select all
FossilHunt_FlamingCliffs_Title     "The Flaming Cliffs";

after, add a similar line, but replace FlamingCliffs with the short vertion of your digsite:
Code: Select all
FossilHunt_ingen_Title     "InGen Facility";

6. And it's done! You have now a new digsite! Have fun.

By that, do you mean to say that you can't create a Dig Site, and add Dinosaurs of which you want specifically to that site?

If so, then it makes little point in actually creating another site in the first place... :?

Indeed. Per example, if you wished to have a Spinosaurus on your digsite, you'd have to use the tml of chenini formation, as the spino is there located. And, since you are using the chenini tml you are binded to it.

I know. This is just a mod that was on the old board before it was hacked. :P

Damn, that is a dissapointment. Would have been nice to create Dig Sites of which you got to choose the Dinosaurs from (seeing as people only want the better Dinosaurs, and not the... rubbish, slow and boring ones) :lol:

This is pretty hard to do.

I tried to add the Rio Limay Formation (a copy of Chenini), but when i put in the coordinates to try and end up in South America i keep screwing up and getting an exception.
Alas, ladies and gentleman, this day shall always be remembered as the day you almost caught Captain Dilophosaurus Rex!!!

Since it takes from an already existing tml couldn't you create your own Tml and use that?

Maybe you were going too far over the co-ordinate boundarys

TML's are tied to the .exe, so we can't add any new TML's.

I tried to insert the coordinates 100, 200 for the Rio Limay Formation, which should put it somewhere in the ocean to the west of Brazil, but it's not there.

Okay, I made a new digsite based of Chemini, but I have an idea:]

You said we can't make new TMLs right? But what if say, I wanted fireneeb's Baryonyx, and copied his chemini TML renamed it 'dinos_ingen.tml' and called that? Would that work?

How would the game know where that TML is, and if it actually exists? There's a list of the TML's in the .exe, and where they're found. This is in the .exe so it's easier for the models to find the skin. This way, you only need to write the skin name in the model file and it'll find the skin.

And we can't edit the .exe so we can't add new TMl's. We can only edit existing ones.

So you couldn't have a new digsite with the same dinos but different skins?

Hmm, i don't really know. I've never really looked into the digsites much. Maybe someone else can help you.

Well I attempted it by copying the original Chenini TML and renaming it to Sahara (Thus giving me the original spino and the one that I edited). Did all that was said above. Everything worked up until I created a hatchery. Once the hatchery was created and I tried to click it to hatch a dinosaur, the game crashed.

A few further tests show that it only crashes if I unlock the Sahara digsite. I don't know if this shows that there may be a way to get this to work, but I have my fingers crossed (and naivety because I've never really modded anything in OG)
