Night Weather

Unread postby Eternal_Rocker_Chick » Sat, 6th Jan 2007 22:39

Description
With this modification, it will change the light rain weather to a night time instead.

Medium/Low Settings

High Setting with reflective water

Known Issues
None now ^-^

Tutorial
Files changed
AmbSound.ini,
Eng.txt,
Main.gui,
Weather.ini
SkyrainL.dds <<<< (Only for use with the high setting)

AmbSound: Edited so that the sounds played are more night-like
Eng.txt: The name of the weather
Main.gui: The weather icon has been changed
Weather.ini: Where the weather presets have been edited
SkyrainL.dds: Made darker to look like night

As this mod replaces the light rain weather, this tutorial does too. However, it can replace other weathers if needed.

1. Open the file AmbSound.ini in notepad and find the light rain heading. Replace it with this:
Code: Select all
LightRain
   {
      Ocean
      {
         NumSounds=1;
         Sound[0]

            Name=SFX_RAIN_B01;
            Chance=100;
         }

      }
   }

2. Next, find the Eng.txt and find where it says 'rain'
Code: Select all
8276     "Sunny";
8277     "Rain";
8278     "Thunderstorm";

Change it to 'night' or whatever you want to call the night weather. It should look like this:
Code: Select all
8276     "Sunny";
8277     "Night";
8278     "Thunderstorm";

3. Now, find the main.gui. This is just changing the icon. You don't have to do this step, and you can keep the rainy icon. However, this is what you would have to do if you wanted the stormy icon rather than the rainy one
Find this line:
Code: Select all
WeatherRainLight   gui2   0 226 30 30 0   false   false   false;

Change it to this:
Code: Select all
WeatherRainLight   gui2   129   226   30   30   0   false   false   false;

4. Now, access the weather.ini and under the lightrain catergory, replace it with this
NOTE: This has been altered to work with high settings. Low and medium are still the same, but if you want it to work on high, then you must re-copy this section of the file.
Code: Select all
lightrain
{
   drylength = 300.0;

5. For people wanting the high terrain setting, you must download this file. Unzip it, and put it in your JPOG/Data folder

I tried this but the sky will not get as dark as in your picture and it will still rain. Any ideas?

I can't stop the rain as that's to do with the exectuable. If i replaced heatwave or normal weather, then it wouldn't rain, but as i'm replcaing light rain, it has to rain. And there's only a two reasons why your sky isn't that dark

You've got high terrian settings and reflective water on
Or, your draw distance is too high

Still no luck, maybe it works for you because of your setting configurations, unless someone else has had success with it. I really want this mod to work because it looks so cool. Also do the buildings give off enough light to make it realisticly look like night, and illuminate the pathways.

No unfortunantly, but i should be upgrading my own piece of junk in the near distant future, so i'll definiatly get the mod done then

Yes, the lights do, and i really have no idea why it wouldn't work. Try changing the bit texture. (in the resoloution box in setup, the last number will be 16 or 32) And see if that works

If you're able to make this mod on high quality, will reflective water also be possible? It's a awesome mod by the way, having totally dark means the raptors running loose.
Oh, year, would the other mod, the one whit terrains, also be possible to make working whit high quality and reflective water?

Yeah, once i get it working, it'll work fine.

The only reason why i haven't made a version of both mods that work on high graphics settings is because i don't have high graphics settings. And i can hardly make mods that i can't see can i? lol. I promise you, once i get high grapics, i'll re-do both of these mods first thing
