Welcome... To Modding Genesis

Unread postby Legion » Mon, 16th Jul 2007 13:02

Hello there!
First, I'd like to welcome you to Modding Genesis, the largest stop for modding the game Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis.
This site aims to be the frontline for everything related to this game, and, in a long term, even more.
Saddly, time is scarce for us in command of this great place, and so, things move slowly, many might agree too slowly.
In the future, we hope to have an extensive knowledge bae about this game, englobing modding, dinosaur profiles, structure profile, game strategy tips (with and without Modding Genesis' expansion packs for the game), among many other resources. Sadly, and for now, all we have are a few pages on the main website (http:\\www.jurassicisland.ch) related to modding, yet, they are no less a demandatory read for those who are interested into going further down the rabbit hole.

Under normal circumstances, Modding Genesis will never release your provided information to any third party without a court order requiring us to do so.
However, in cases of certain severe and/or repeated TOS violations or illegal activities, we reserve the right to forward any and all known information about you and your account to your ISP (including libraries, schools, and places of employment), e-mail service provider, your ISP account owner (if someone else is actually paying for it), and any parties whose copyright has clearly been infringed by your actions on the boards.

For now, you can join in the many discussions the many mods this community achieves to improve the game, or if you simply want to chat about any other items to your heart comtempt, all we ask, is for you to follow the Modding Genesis etiquette (ooh, fancy words!)

Rules

Unread postby Legion » Mon, 16th Jul 2007 13:06

The Modding Genesis Rules. These are aspects we find very important for our users to follow. It's the minimum conduct we expect our users to keep when posting on our message boards. We reckon there are lots of grey spaces, yet, try to use your good judgement (common sense) to fill them.

I - Offensive Posting
Posts of an obvious offensive nature are forbidden.

This includes, yet is not restrained to:
Flamming - also known as insulting or name calling; provoking users with the intent to offend (eg: "F*** you", "go kill yourself", etc.)
Trolling - provoking users to respond with flames (eg. "that game sucks and all who play it are dumb").
Posting direct links and pictures of explicit sexual nature.

II - Censor Bypassing
Profane language purposedly written to contour our censoring system

We try our best to update a list of words for our boards determine as profane (also described as vulgar) and replace them with less harsh words or code them to be meaningless without context. Yet, we know many users can bypass our list and write the words through either:
    misspelling;
    inserting spaces or symbols;
    transposing letters;
    using look-alike symbols.

We do not endorse this. The only way you can post while still bypassing our censors is by completely obscure it, making it impossible to determine what the word is without context.

III - Illegal Activities
Posts violating or inciting to violate the law are forbidden

We forbid the request of:
Illegal copies of copyrighted software (ROMs, Warez)
Methods of circumventing copyright protection (Cracks, CD Keys, mod chips)
Illegal copies of copyrighted music (MP3s), movies, videos, or any other type of media, except if you have consentment of the owner
Methods of cheating in online games

IV - Disruptive Posting
IV.a - Spamming
Posts with less than one word, promoting a service/product or with a useless content for the discussion are not allowed

Such things include:
Unsolicited commercial or personal web site advertisements
    For-Sale/For-Trade/For-Auction/Wanted notices
"Make Money Fast" scams, chain letters, and pyramid schemes
    Off-Topic conversation

Users, are, on the other hand, allowed to:
    Have one website address
As long as a user has a post count above 150 posts, they can also create one topic on the "user announcements" forum for comments on their website/community (infractions mean immediate deletion of the topic as well as the emission of a warning).
Post an address on their regular post if the website provides a clear answer to a fellow member's request. In this case, you should point the link to the precise destination requested by the user.

Finally, when posting, remember you should be posting to either ask for information or provide information for others benefits. Posting "Cool" or "Yes, I know about that" as a topic title or content is not useful and can be considered spamming the forum.

IV.b - Other
Posts that corrupt the enjoyment of reading the message boards for other users, intentional or not, are prohibited.

We oftenly define this as:
Message posts or topic titles that force browsers to scroll horizontally
Posting multiple identical or near-identical messages/topics
Making consecutive posts, there is an edit button: use it
Topic titles or posts consisting of all or mostly capital letters
Cross-posting - posting the same information on several places.
Posting in a topic older than one month old for no reason other than posting "yes" or "cool". Remember, by posting in an old topic, you are forcing others to read the entire topic once more just so they can understand what you are talking about. If, however, the topic is exactly the same one you need, then you can revive it, just be sure to be as explicit and contextualize as much as possible so others do not have to read the topic once more.

Please... simply write the way that anyone understands it... we're an international community, and intentionally hard-to-read writing is simply an insult to anyone from Asia, Europe, Africa and South America who really tries to write in correct english grammar.
Use punctuation (really, it's a hell to read sentences without it)
    Don't use regiona slang/acronyms (U = you, sux = sucks, etc)

V - Signatures and Avatars
Modding Genesis users are not allowed to have signatures larger than six lines (rows), this includes any breaks/spaces between text. Avatars can be no bigger than 200x200 pixels.

A signature is suppose to be something small, only to help identify yourself and/or something you really think worth mentioning, and should NEVER be bigger than your average post, as it disrupts reading enjoynment.
You are allowed to have one image in your signature, yet, it can be no bigger than 250 pixels in height, nor longer than 450 pixels wide.
When using an image as signature, you can only have two rows of text.

A userbar awarded by modding genesis is the equivalent of one row of text.

Member Conduct

Unread postby Legion » Mon, 16th Jul 2007 13:06

These aren't rules, you do not have to read this to post on Modding Genesis, yet, this is useful to make you aware of your rights and duties as a user on Modding Genesis.

I - Account Responsibility
Users are solely responsible for protecting their accounts from access by others.

You are strongly encouraged to select a hard-to-guess password and not re-use that password on any other websites where it may be read by the owners/administrators of that site. Modding Genesis also does not endorse multiple accounts. A user who has several accounts shall receive a private message on all of them and be asked to choose only one, leaving the other(s) to be deleted.

By simply viewing or downloading content avaiable on the main website and/or bulletin boards (forum) on Modding Genesis you agree that such content is the sole responsibility of the person from which the content originated. You agree that neither Modding Genesis nor its affiliates are responsible for any content that you personally post (or upload) and download.

Do keep in mind that the staff doesn't have to be kind, nor to take up an insulting remark simply because they are in an administrative position.
A staff member is not above you, or below you, simply for being on the staff, meaning s/he has to abide the forum rules as much as yourself, and doesn't have to take a neutral opinion only because s/he's a staff member. This also means you can't insult him/her and expect him/her to not insult you back. They are as entitled to such a remark as yourself.

Do not be afraid to engage in a discussion with a staff member, as they aren't allowed to (nor would they) use any kind of administrative tools against you simply because you have a different stance of opinion. Off course, this stands only as long as you follow the forum rules. If during said discussion you breake the rules, you will be punished according the Modding Genesis Consequences.

II - Helping Moderators
Whilst we appreciate that some of you like to help us with the forum, there are a few issues that need to be addressed.

Please, do not make:
A post just to tell another member not to double post. We will decide what is an inappropriate double post and advise the person if necessary. (It does not make sense to post, just to tell someone else not to double post).
A separate post just to inform another member that they are in the wrong forum, or a topic should be moved or locked. We do not need you adding "Mod/Admin you can close this". We read the forums everyday and it is our job to notice these things.

If a thread needs urgent attention please PM a Moderator and we will attend to it as soon as possible. Do not take forum problems into your own hands. Alternatively, you can also use the "report this post" function, on the top right of the post in question.

It would be appreciated if you can help us by following these guidelines. We notice that on some sites, a thread can go on for half a page whilst everyone adds there 2 cents about where it should be and if it should be locked etc.
This is unnecessarily clogging up the forums.

Yet, the topic starter (creator) can request the closing of the topic.

Guidelines

Unread postby Legion » Mon, 16th Jul 2007 13:07

These aren't rules, and we won't enforce the use of these, yet, we appreciate you to have these in mind when you are going to create a post/topic.

You may add an image to a post as long as it complies to the rules below.

The picture when using the IMG tags should not be larger than 400x400 pixels. This is to cater for people with lower resolutions and to avoid members having to scroll horizontally to read the post.

You can use the image tags to link an image from another website.
eg:
Code: Select all
[img]http://theURLaddress.jpg[/img]

This will paste the image in your post.
Or you can use the URL tags
eg:
Code: Select all
[URL=http://theURLaddress]Click Here[/URL]

to open the image in a new window.
There is no size limit for using the URL tags linking to another website.

There is an edit button in your post. You can change/add to your posts by clicking on the edit button, making your changes and then pressing Submit. Edit your post rather than making another post to add another point, correct your statement, or to try to increase post count. Multiple Posting is considered as breaking forum rules.
There is also the Bump topic function on the bottom of a topic. The Bump Topic function shows up 10 minutes after the last post was made, so if you want to give attention to your recently edited post, or your unreplied topic, use this function rather than posting.
Note: The bump topic is a viable alternative to double-posting because of lack of replies between your posts.

Take the time to think on what you'll post. See how much it adds to the topic and if it's properly structured. Try to make your posts as clear as possible and the correct english grammar and ortography. We know it's nearly impossible to keep a topic always on-topic, and some "off-topicness" is expected, yet, it's something you should be careful when posting. If a post has absolutely *nothing* related to the topic then it can be considered as spamming.

If you do not know where to post your message, read each forum description and the type of posts within to see where your post is best placed.

Also, remember we have a search function.
First thing is to find out whether your question has already been answered in a thread.
If you cannot find a suitable answer and wish to ask - by all means, start a thread.
When naming your thread please, clearly put the nature of your question in the subject. For example: Putting your subject as "Help please" is bad from when you could put "release date?".

This also helps others looking for similar answers to find the relevant threads easier.
Always supply as much information about your problem, or question, as you can.

Consequences

Unread postby Legion » Wed, 29th Aug 2007 11:05

Modding Genesis users will be punished according to this section.

Infringement of signature and avatar restrictions will result on deletion of the users' avatar and/or signature.

Users will be immediately banned (along with any associated accounts) for impersonating other users by creating and/or using a message board account with a name clearly intended to impersonate mock, or antagonize another user. Users are also immediately banned for using exploits or tricks in the Modding Genesis' code to gain privileges, access, or abilities not clearly intended by the board design.

Users will be banned on a second occurrence of posting explicit pornographic material.

On any other occurrences, the Modding Genesis staff will emmit one warning for each infraction. If a user accumulates a total of 3 warnings, the user will be banned for a month at the third occurrence.

Each individual warning is lifted after 90 days from the respective notification.

Change Log

Unread postby Legion » Sun, 17th May 2009 20:56

May 17th, 2009 by DarkLord
- Due to the recent flooding of users advertising websites to which they have no direct affiliation other than being registered there and wishing to catter more members to said websites, along with showing no apparent wish to belong to this community, and instead solely use it as a billboard, we the staff have decided on editing the requirements and punishments regarding advertisement topics. Users now must have at least 150 posts before creating a topic with the purpose to advertise their website/community. Also, users are allowed only one topic and it must be a website/community they have founder status of. Otherwise, the topic shall be deleted on sight and the user shall have a warning emmited for violating forum policies. Also, advertisement through signature counts as advertising in multiple topics (as it effectively is).
